About The Client
Evolution Mining is one of Australia’s largest gold miners, operating multiple mining and processing facilities across Queensland and New South Wales. Since Evolution’s formation in 2011, MarchNet has worked closely with the business to design, build and operate telecommunications infrastructure supporting critical mining operations.
The Business Challenge
Many of Evolution Mining’s operations are located in regional and remote areas, where telecommunications services are critical to the safe and efficient operation of mining activities.
Historically, a number of sites had experienced outages and performance issues associated with dependence on a single telecommunications provider. Mining operations required a more resilient communications platform capable of supporting business systems, operational technology, site administration, contractor facilities and future expansion projects.
As mine sites expanded and operational requirements evolved, Evolution also required connectivity solutions that could adapt to changing site layouts, new infrastructure and increasing bandwidth demands.
Two independent paths, one resilient network
Hover over (or tap) each part of the network to see what it does.
Why it matters: if one path or carrier fails, traffic continues over the other, keeping critical mining operations connected.
The Business Solution
MarchNet has delivered a range of telecommunications solutions across Evolution Mining operations over more than a decade.
Carrier-Diverse WAN Services
MarchNet designed and implemented carrier-diverse telecommunications networks to reduce the risk of communication outages and improve operational continuity. The networks utilise combinations of:
- Licensed microwave networks
- Fibre backhaul services
- Carrier-diverse transport paths
- Managed WAN infrastructure
- Enterprise-grade routing platforms
Together, these provide resilient connectivity between remote mining operations and corporate networks.
High-Speed Microwave Infrastructure
MarchNet has delivered and continues to support licensed microwave networks across Evolution Mining operations, providing high-capacity, low-latency communications in locations where traditional fibre connectivity is either unavailable or uneconomic. The microwave infrastructure provides connectivity for:
Network Design & Relocation Services
As mine infrastructure evolves, communications networks often need to move with it. MarchNet has undertaken detailed design studies and solution development for Evolution Mining, including investigations into WAN relocations, protected microwave architectures and future communications expansion requirements – ensuring operational communications remain aligned with changing mine plans.
Ongoing Operations & Support
MarchNet continues to operate and support communications infrastructure across Evolution Mining sites, ensuring communications systems remain aligned with operational requirements and future growth:
- Network monitoring
- Fault management
- Capacity planning
- Infrastructure upgrades
- Engineering support
- Lifecycle management
The Business Outcome
Through its long-term partnership with Evolution Mining, MarchNet has delivered:
- Carrier-Diverse Infrastructure: Communications built on independent paths and carriers.
- Improved Network Resilience: Reduced risk of outages affecting critical operations.
- Reduced Single-Carrier Dependence: No reliance on one provider for site connectivity.
- High-Speed Remote Connectivity: High-capacity links to remote mining operations.
- Scalable Infrastructure: Telecommunications that grow with the operation.
- Support for Evolving Sites: Networks adapted as mine plans and infrastructure change.
- Reliable Communications: Dependable connectivity for business and operational systems.
The result is a communications platform that supports the operational requirements of modern mining environments, while providing the resilience required for critical production activities.
