Ag Businesses are Harvesting the Fruits of Broadband Internet in Regional Queensland!
20 August 2019, Brisbane
When Ag Businesses like Sandalwood Feedlot and Stanbroke in Regional Queensland invested in broadband internet and started working with MarchNet, some questions were raised such as “Where will they use it? Is it only going be used for social media and Netflix by staff? Will it really help them increase productivity?”
According to feedback from those companies, connectivity has not only boosted their productivity and staff retention, but also reduced maintenance, service and labour costs significantly.
Partnering with Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), MarchNet work with producers to report the outcomes of their connectivity projects. That gives MarchNet the opportunity to observe the direct and indirect effects of their services.
“As a part of our project with MLA, we have been gathering feedback from our Ag clients and preparing quarterly reports on outcomes. We are pleased to see that our services are playing an important role in transforming our Ag clients’ businesses,” Geoff Marsh, Director-Business Development of MarchNet said. “It highlights the importance of measurable improvements in those businesses.”
One Feedlot reported that “reliable broadband internet enabled us to have access to remote IT infrastructure and support, which eliminated on-site IT hardware and support costs. We’re saving approximately $100,000/year on this alone.”
“Solving IT problems remotely and promptly is saving our feedlot around 1,000 hours of overtime per year which means an additional $50,000/year savings.” he added.
Mr. Marsh pointed out that positive outcomes are not limited to cost savings alone. “Another client reported that remotely monitoring irrigation telemetry enabled them to take proactive actions, reducing problems like machinery bogging and stopping by 20%, and consequently increasing yield return by approximately 15% in two years.”
Depending on the size of the business, that means hundreds of thousands of dollars increase in revenue.
Connectivity transforms lives and businesses together. Internet is an inseparable part of our lives. This is not any different for regional and remote areas. Employees demand a high level of connectivity to minimise the effects isolation from friends, family, and head office.
“One of our Ag clients reported that their staff retention has improved by 29.5% since MarchNet installed a broadband internet connection and provided wireless internet throughout the property,”
“We are witnessing a new era for the Australian Agriculture industry. Technology is transforming Ag businesses for more efficiency and productivity. Connectivity is one of the pillars of the technology transformation. We will continue expanding into the Ag market, enabling our clients to access the latest tools of Ag Tech,” Mr. Marsh said.
He emphasized that the distance between their clients and town centres is not the determining factor. “We use wireless technologies to deliver our services and design smarter solutions for our clients where all other alternatives have limitations and high costs,” he said.
