It started in a regular catch up with a client in 2011.  Their remote sites really suffered because of the poor comms available to them.  As their IT Managed Services Provider (MSP), we couldn’t provide remote support to the staff on the ground. And as hard as that was for us, we knew it was even harder for the people who worked there, frustrated and unable to do even the basics.  They couldn’t send emails, download and upload files, or log in to the company servers…  To make matters worse, the site staff of one remote location lived in a 100-person camp which had no comms at all – no mobile coverage or Wi-Fi to Skype and FaceTime with their families back home.

 

As we sat together in their boardroom looking at a quote from everyone’s favourite “formerly government owned, national telecommunications monopoly” for $2.5M – and 2 years to build – to fix the issues at ONE of the sites, an opportunity presented.

 

The idea was born to use new technology, combined with some very cunning engineering, to deliver a high-speed internet connection.  The best part was, it bypassed the stale and inflexible traditional carriers.  The idea was pitched to the client and we set about building infrastructure to deliver our own high-speed internet service.

 

In only 12 weeks from sign off the project was completed on-time and on-budget, bringing a new level of connectivity to the site.  Unlocking productivity, connecting families, and making a very real difference to the lives of the staff at this site.   It was here a need was identified for quality, affordable, high-speed internet services where tier 1 carriers were failing to deliver.

 

Over the years that followed, March IT evolved from an MSP to a licenced telecommunications carrier.  We are pleased to announce the final step of this evolution is a rebrand to MarchNet – Regional and Remote Telecommunications.  This final step recognises the transformation from MSP to Australia’s leading dedicated Regional and Remote Telecommunications provider.

 

The ‘March’ in MarchNet™ reflects our philosophy of always advancing, continually improving, never taking a backwards step. It inspires the staff to be deliberate and focused about our mission; to reduce the impacts of isolation for people living and working in remote locations.

We have a saying at MarchNet, ‘we love what we do, where we do it, and who we do it with’.  As a company we’re absolutely committed to building fit-for-purpose telecommunications infrastructure, reducing isolation, creating value for our clients and serving the needs of the community.
