March IT Delivers High Speed Fixed Wireless for Armour Energy – Kincora Gas Plant
Armour Energy purchased the Kincora Gas Plant in 2016 from Origin Energy and worked to restart operations in December 2017. During the restart works, the Armour team were operating on an unreliable mobile data service from the town of Surat, 30km away. Communications on site were limited to boosted signal on an already saturated network, the outcome was daily frustration and limited productivity.
March IT visited Kincora to design a high speed, reliable fixed wireless solution to connect Kincora to the outside world. The solution delivers a dedicated 20Mbps download and 20Mbps upload, with no limit on usage. Installation required the construction of a 30 metre Telecommunications Monopole at the site, connecting via line-of-sight fixed wireless 70km to March IT’s existing telecommunications tower north of Roma. The design focused on fit-for-purpose equipment to reduce the cost of infrastructure and timeframes for installation. This flexibility and customer outcome focus is one key benefit to choosing to partner with March IT for communications.
With contracts agreed, March IT sourced a 30m Telecommunications Monopole and assisted Armour and local Roma business, Grulke Concrete & Garages, with the pole installation to support March IT’s Carrier Fixed Wireless equipment. In April 2018 the pole was installed and the service commissioned, delivering exactly to the specifications the design predicted; wireless availability above 99.999% and room to increase speeds in the future if required.
As part of the installation, March IT deployed 2 x high powered Wi-Fi Access Points, providing strong, reliable Wi-Fi in the Administration Office, workshop and outdoor areas surrounding the main buildings. This enables high speed access to Armour’s corporate office and servers located in Brisbane, as well as Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWIFI) for Telstra and Optus mobile network coverage on the latest handsets.
Kincora Operations Superintendent Trevor English said the commissioning of the March IT service has had a huge impact on the day to day operations of the plant.
“We used to have to reboot the modem several times a day as the service slowed down and became unusable regularly. The March IT internet service has been faultless since installation and we finally have telecommunications services we can rely on.”
