The construction of a Wind Farm in Victoria’s South West required access to reliable telecommunications. The remote location of this Wind Farm presented difficulties for the construction company to access telecommunications to support their operations. This first stage of construction comprises of building 43 wind turbines and will be capable of generating enough clean energy to power 138,000 residential homes feeding into the national grid. The contractors responsible for constructing this Wind Farm requested a strong and reliable connection to this remote location to support their operations, with the capability to expand capacity when required.
Existing mobile network coverage in the area would not be reliable to support this construction team, and with the site being so remote, the MarchNet team had to design something smarter. MarchNet secured access to fibre and then installed a 32 kilometre fixed wireless link to deliver this service to the Administration Office at the Wind Farm.
MarchNet designed and installed a 20Mbps/20Mbps Fixed Wireless Internet Service to the Wind Farm within eight weeks from being awarded the contract. This involved coordinating a new fibre breakout, and installation of a point to point fixed wireless microwave link to the Wind Farm’s Administration Office. This service then provides connectivity to the client’s internal network for distribution throughout site. The delivery of the MarchNet service enables dedicated, reliable communications for the client to begin construction of the Wind Farm assets.
